Spring is one of the best times of year to travel. Warmer weather, great landscapes, and fewer crowds makes it an ideal time for exploring new destinations.

However, before packing your bags and heading abroad we have created you a five-step list of travel vaccinations we recommend before your holiday. Its important to make sure your vaccinations are up to date, certain diseases remain common in parts of the world, and a simple vaccine can protect your health while you travel.

1) Hepatitis A

Hepatitis A is one of the most common preventable illnesses among travellers. It spreads through contaminated food or water and can be found most commonly in Asia, Africa, Central and South America, and the Middle East.

Hotels still also pose risk of the virus, symptoms to look out for include fatigue, nausea, stomach pain, and jaundice.

Why you may need it:

  • Recommended for most international travellers

  • Protects against infection from contaminated food and water

  • Usually given as one injection, with a booster dose 6-12 months later for long-term protection

2) Tetanus, Diphtheria & Polio

It is very easy to forget about routine boosters when the excitement of a holiday takes over, however a booster for tetanus, diphtheria, and polio is usually recommended if you haven’t had one in the last 10 years.

These diseases can be serious and are still present in some parts of the world.

Why you may need it:

  • Protects against infections from cuts, injuries, or contaminated environments

  • Usually recommended for backpackers

  • Simple booster providing multiple protections

3) Typhoid

Typhoid fever is a bacterial infection spread through contaminated food and water. It remains a risk in destinations with poor sanitation, including parts of South Asia, Africa, and Latin America.

Travelers who enjoy street food or adventurous dining experiences are particularly at risk.

Why you may need it:

  • Recommended for travel to many developing regions

  • Available as an injection or oral vaccine

  • Protection typically lasts about three years

4) Hepatitis B

Hepatitis B spreads through blood and bodily fluids. While it is commonly associated with medical procedures, it can also be transmitted through accidents, tattoos, or unprotected sexual contact.

For longer trips, volunteering, healthcare work, or travel to high-risk regions, vaccination is strongly recommended.

Why you may need it:

  • Recommended for longer stays abroad

  • Important for travellers visiting rural areas, back packers and those with complex medical history

  • Usually given as a course of three injections

5) Rabies

Rabies is a rare but very fatal once symptoms appear. It is spread through bites or scratches from infected animals, particularly dogs, bats, and monkeys. The UK reported its first death from rabies in 2025, form a trveller who had returned from Morocco after being scratched by a puppy.

Travelers pose a heightened risk of rabies when travelling to foreign countries due to the amount of infected stray animals, such as dogs, cat and monkeys

Travelers visiting rural areas, hiking, cycling, or even working with animals may benefit from the rabies vaccine.

Why you may need it:
