Now the new year has started its a good idea to get your oral health checked and maintained to avoid potential problems in the future. Dentistry is now becoming a preventative model, where you are seen regularly to keep your mouth healthy and avoid problems that are caused by log term poor oral hygiene care or neglect.

Regular Dental Check-ups and hygiene

Seeing your dentist every six months helps prevent small issues from turning into major problems. Regular check-ups can detect cavities, gum disease, and oral health concerns early—saving you time, discomfort, and money. At regular hygiene's we can check your toothbrushing techniques and give you tips on any improvements and remove hard to reach plaque and tartar keeping your smile healthy and boost your wellbeing. Did you know poor oral hygiene extends to beyond the mouth and can increase your risk of heart disease, diabetes and dementia.

Daily Oral Hygiene Routine

Brushing twice a day and flossing daily may sound basic, but consistency is key. Many dental problems stem from skipped flossing or rushed brushing. Always make sure your teeth are being brushed for an entire two minutes as well as using mouthwash and flossing in between teeth at least once a day.

Lower Acidic Drinks And Sugary Foods

If possible try and lower your sugar intake, high amounts of sugar in your diet increases the risk of cavities, and acid erosion. Instead of picking up a can of coke, swap this for a refreshing glass of water, enjoy sweets in ''Moderation'' and always rinse your mouth after acidic food and drinks to help maintain/strengthen your enamel.

Address Dental Issues

If you have dental treatment that you have been avoiding, whether its been due to dental anxiety, finances, or a busy schedule. Make your dental issues a priority this year. Book in to see us and get a healthier you this year.

Floss Even When Tired

People tend to forget about flossing and using inter-dental brushes, we recommend doing this everyday to avoid plaque build up, prevent cavities, reduce gum inflammation and gum bleeding and maintain fresh breath. Remember your teeth has multiple surfaces and brushing only cleans 60% of your tooth. the other 40% needs to be cleaned with interdental brushes.

Replace Your Toothbrush Head

Replacing your toothbrush or toothbrush head regularly is essential for keeping your mouth healthy and your cleaning effective. Make sure to do this every 3 months in order to prevent bacteria build up. Not replacing your toothbrush head regularly can lead to numerous issues such as, worn bristles that can cause brushing to be less effective, reduces plaque removal, gum irritation and can cause the enamel to wear down.

Quit Smoking For Good

Stopping smoking has powerful, visible benefits for your teeth and gums—many of them start sooner than people expect. There are various health benefits to quitting smoking, not only for your health but for your teeth. You will notice improved blood flow to the gums, reduced bad breath, reduced staining, better taste and smell, and much more.
